Mean Time to Repair (MTTR)
MTTR
Mean time to repair is the average time taken to restore a failed asset to working order, measured from the moment the fault is reported to the moment service is resumed.
Definition
MTTR includes response, travel, diagnosis and the repair itself, so a high figure does not always mean slow technicians — it can point to slow dispatch or missing parts. Breaking it down by stage usually shows where the time actually goes.
Why it matters
MTTR is what a customer experiences as "how long were we down". It is also the metric most SLAs are written around, which makes it the natural target when contract performance needs to improve.
