Work Order
Job, ticket
A work order is the record of a single job to be performed: what needs doing, for which customer, on which asset, by when, and by whom. It carries the job through its whole life — created, assigned, in progress, completed, invoiced.
Definition
A modern work order is more than a task title. It holds the checklist the technician must complete, the photos taken on site, the parts consumed, the time spent, and the customer's signature — so the completed job is self-documenting.
Why it matters
The work order is the unit that everything else measures. Response times, SLA compliance, technician productivity, and parts cost all derive from work order data, so an incomplete work order is a hole in every report you run.
