Dispatch
Dispatching
Dispatch is the act of assigning a job to a specific technician and sending it to them. It decides who goes where and in what order, balancing skills, availability, location and job priority.
Definition
Manual dispatch relies on a coordinator who knows the team. Automated dispatch uses the technicians' live positions, their current workload and the job's priority to propose the assignment with the least travel time, which a dispatcher can accept or override.
Why it matters
Dispatch quality decides how much of the day is spent working rather than driving. Poor dispatch shows up as long travel times, missed SLA targets, and technicians criss-crossing the same territory.
